Sore Throat Antics
So what do you do when you wake up in the middle of the night with an extremely sore throat? Well if your me you look up sore throat relief on the internet and then you try every suggestion. The first suggestion was salt water. Didn't work. Then I tried cayenne pepper in water. Different burn, but no less painful. Thirdly hydrogen peroxide. Cold, nasty and useless. Then dissolved IBprofen in water. Possibly it is working or I am just getting too tired to care. Finally a good rinse with listerene and I am sound asleep on the couch. My throat still hurts.
Alls Well That Ends Well
So today Alaura had surgery. Her thumb is straight now, but bandaged. We had to be at the hospital at 12:45, but she couldn't eat from midnight on. So when she woke up at 9 am and was told she couldn't eat, she was not a happy camper. Three and a half hours later we were on our way to the hospital. Once there we were put in a room and waited some more. After finally speaking to the doctor, the nurse, and the anesthesiologist and nurse came in and gave her a relaxant of some kind. A few minutes later another nurse came in and took her away, she was pretty out of it because she didn't even cry, but I did. I became a little stressed at that point, but about a half hour later the doctor came out and said everything was fine. Then came Alaura crying. She had woke up quicker then expected and she didn't see us. It took about 30 minutes before she would stop. That was frustrating because I wanted to cry with her, but I couldn't because we were trying to get her calmed down so we could get the ok to leave. Well we are finally home and everyone is great. Dad and mom are exhausted (poor dad had to deal with two extremely emotional and grumpy girls today) and I'm just tired because I am still sick. Alaura, she's back to normal and using her thumb already. I am so proud of her!!

Stitches
So I woke up Sunday morning with a terrible cold and then about 8pm Sunday night I was throwing something away and cut myself on a broken glass in the garbage can. It didn't really hurt, but it was pretty deep and so we ran me into the Urgent Care and I received a tetanus shot and 4 stitches. My first stitches in my life. My thumb and Alaura's thumb will match for Christmas I guess. On top of Alaura's surgery, my stitches, and being sick I am planning a Middle Ages feast for my students on Thursday. I cannot wait for Christmas vacation!!! Oh and if I can I will post a picture of my new wound.

Well here goes. My first attempt at blogging, I think I can do it. So life for the Bostwicks has been eventful. Before Thanksgiving Randy and I discovered that Alaura's thumb was bent and she could not straighten it. We took her into Urgent Care and they x-rayed it, but only to find that it was not broken, so they splinted it and sent us home. We felt horrible thinking she had hurt her thumb and we didn't know how. So after splinting for five days we removed the splint only to have her thumb return to the bent position. So we splinted for another 5 days with the same results. We then went to see our family doctor who sent us to a hand surgeon who diagnosed Alaura with congenital trigger finger, she had done nothing to cause, nor could my husband or I have prevented it. I felt relieved, but only for a moment because then we were told it would have to be fixed with surgery. Now it may be simple surgery, but for me who has never gone under for anything I am worried. Anesthesia on a three year old is a little scary, but I know everything will be fine. I will update after the surgery.
